About
I've always had an affinity for horses. Ever since I was just knee-high to a grasshopper living in Australia some of my fondest memories has been with horses. From being stepped on by a gentle Clydesdale with one eye (he lost the other to cancer), to helping out at a local branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association helping disabled children and adults learn to ride.
Photography was also a passion of mine. Since I was 15 I've had some sort of camera in my hand (whether it be a toy camera, to a digital SLR camera of late), usually off photographing animals of some way shape or form. For a while I hoped to become a photographer for Rolling Stone magazine, living the glamorous life of a photographer to the stars. That wasn't meant to be (thankfully - as I found I was happier around subjects that had four legs and fur, or had two legs and feathers) and once again, I started to find my love of animals again.
I've been published in magazines from musicians (although not Rolling Stone) to horses, and ferrets. I've photographed ferrets, cats, dogs, birds, fish and horses, even snakes, but being around any kind of cute animal (or noble in the case of horses) makes me happy. I'm happily owned by three ferrets, although they're terribly camera shy, but I'll pretty much photograph any kind of animal that I come in contact with. That being said, I've found that the most important thing with any kind of animal photography is you have to have some level of patience, and as some people can attest to, when it comes to animals, I've got alot of patience. Ferrets for one can be rather difficult to photograph, and patience can wear thin at times, but I always try my hardest.
So if you do have a shy dog, or horse, rest assured I will be as patient as possible, and will even hold off photographing them until the animal comes to accept me on their own terms. I do not force any animal to do something it does not want to do. I am for natural portraits, using only available lighting, and creative digital techniques also. All my equipment is now digital, and I take my time proofing and selecting only the best photographs for you to select to show your beloved animal in their element.
